American psychotherapist Mary Jo Rapini (vegetarian) shares how she died, met God on the other side, and was sent back with a message.
In 2003, Mary Jo was exercising at her gym on the Holy Saturday before Easter when she felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her neck. She collapsed, convulsing, and was rushed to the hospital. Scans revealed a massive brain hemorrhage, and doctors warned her husband that she might not survive the night.
Mary Jo had grown distant from God after years of witnessing children with cancer suffering. But in the ambulance, she was overwhelmed, told God she couldn’t bear it, and surrendered to His Will—accepting that she might die. Instantly, her fear vanished and a deep calm took over. She later said that letting go completely changed the course of her illness.
As her condition worsened and the surgery room was prepared, Mary Jo saw a small, radiant white Light in the ceiling’s corner— soft, luminous, almost like a tunnel. The next moment, she was drawn into it, upright and fully conscious, aware that her body still lay below. She could see her husband in the room, his head in his hands, weeping over a surgical consent form.
Then Mary Jo found herself in a glowing, pinkish space that felt infinite and alive. She sensed other souls moving with her and felt an overwhelming familiarity, as if she had been there before. Suddenly, she was in the presence of God, Who held her and said, “It’s not your time.” Disappointed, she pleaded to stay, as the love she felt then was deeper than any human love, which was like plastic compared to real gold. She listed all the good deeds she thought she had done— helping the sick, comforting the dying, being a devoted wife and mother. God asked her one question: “Have you ever loved anyone the way you’ve been loved here?” She answered, “No, that’s impossible— I’m human.” God drew her closer and replied, “You can do better.”
She awoke to her husband shaking her before surgery. He warned her she might never walk or be the same. She told him calmly, “It’s okay. I’m not going to die. God said it’s not my time.”
Mary Jo survived the operation. In the months that followed, she struggled with depression, longing for the love she’d felt in that place. But the experience transformed her completely. She became more compassionate, less judgmental, and devoted her life to helping others. She says her encounter taught her that the greatest gift one can give is compassion—that all people are connected through Divine Love, and that God knows each soul intimately and is waiting for us to come back Home (The Other Side NDE)
Uplifting quote of the day: “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” — The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. American Minister and Civil Rights Leader
